Verwood & Three Legged Cross
Twinning Association receive European Diploma

On 24 th of June 2005, Catharina Green, Chairlady of Verwood & 3LX Twinning Association, attended the sitting of the Parliamentary Assembly from the official tribune, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the European Plaque of Honour presented at the Parliamentary Assembly at Strasbourg.
The first Plaque of Honour was awarded to Coventry in 1955 to celebrate the building of bridges between the peoples of Europe after the war.
Our Diploma not only acknowledges the work done by the members of the Verwood and 3LX Twinning Association at European level to bring people of Europe closer together, but also works as an incentive to develop further contact with twin towns and other European partners.
24 out of the 35 communities who received the Award sent representatives, 23 of which where Mayors or Deputy Mayors. Several deputations consisted of 4 or 5 Councillors. Catharina felt very honoured to receive the award on behalf of Verwood Town Council.
The Verwood and Three Legged Cross Twinning Association will try to achieve the next award consisting of the European Flag of Honour which would, should we be found worthy this year, be handed over to the Verwood Town Council Mayor by a representative of the Council of Europe in a ceremony in Verwood sometime later in 2006, to be held hopefully in the new Community Centre.
Catharina will be presenting the Mayor, Cllr. Mike Daymond, who was one of the founder members in 1984 at the next available Full Council Meeting.
